From this book I made some very cute place mats and a hot pad for Summer. They were called Summer Sea Mats.

GIVEAWAY WINNER!

Happy Mother’s Day! I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. My wonderful husband got home late Friday night and presented me with a beautiful lilac shrub yesterday for my Mother’s day gift. I can’t wait to get it planted, but we will have to put fencing around it so the deer won’t eat it. Lilacs are just one of my favorite flowers. I love the fragrance. So this one will be planted somewhat close to the house so the scent will waft through the windows.

Pink Lemonade Quilt – Part 3

Hello fellow quilters, friends and visitors! I hope you are having a great day! It’s been pretty good here at LodgePole Quilting. I have accomplished a few things and one of those things is completing the Pink Lemonade quilt top!

I have a few pictures to share with you as we go through this great pattern. In Pink Lemonade Quilt – Part 1 and Part 2 I took you through the cutting and building of the twenty (10 1/2 inch) blocks needed for this pattern. I was able to show you how much easier cutting fabric was by using my Accuquilt Go! Cutting System. I also showed you how the pieces of the blocks were joined together to make a block.

Today I will show you the final steps of putting to quilt top together.

20180501_152905
Pink Lemonade blocks on design wall

I joined the first row of blocks together in the pattern laid out on my design wall and according to the directions. Then I continued in that manner until all six rows were done. When I pressed the seams  I made sure they were pressed either to the left or right depending on which row of blocks I was joining together. That way they were pressed in an alternate pattern which will make joining the rows together much easier.

Next I joined the rows together, keeping the pattern design true. By pressing the block seams in an alternating pattern it made this portion of the job easier.

Now that all of the block row are together, here comes the final steps.

Row one: I used the same tan/stone fabric for the first border. I rather like how it gives the top a “sepia tone” look.

20180503_154553
Pink Lemonade Quilt – 1st Border

Next is border two. Here I used a rose-colored tonal print. It picks up the rose color in the other prints.

20180503_163119
Pink Lemonade Quilt 2nd Border

The final border is the same tonal print as the rose-colored one, only in gray.

20180504_105419
Pink Lemonade Quilt – 3rd and final border.

Though I think it looks nice, I kind of wish I had done the borders in a different order. Or that the tan/stone fabric had been more gray than tan. Well, I will definitely do things a bit different next time.

So now that the top is complete, all that is left is making the quilt sandwich, quilting the sandwich and then binding it. My backing fabric is all washed and dried. I still need to “fluff” the batting and get the wrinkles out of it. While I am doing that I will press the backing and get it ready to cut to size. I think with this wide width backing I won’t even have to sew pieces of backing together to make it wide enough! How nice is that?

Now to decide how to quilt it. Allover? Something special on the borders? Hmmmm. Decisions, decisions. I guess I will have to wait until I am ready to quilt it.

Don’t forget to enter the giveaway for the digital quilt pattern of Pink Lemonade. The giveaway will end soon.

Until next time – Do you FMQ?

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday to all you new visitors, friends and fellow quilters! I am glad you have taken the time to visit me here at LodgePole Quilting: where quilting and designing happens, bringing warmth and beauty to your home.

Last week-end, my husband, Wes, was home and he put together a garden for me, including fencing. He also made a sifter to sift our pile of topsoil from the boulders, I mean rocks. I played in the sifted dirt. Actually, I mixed the topsoil with the compost mixture he brought home. I now have five raised garden beds encased with fencing to keep the deer out. I can’t wait to see my little seeds grow into yummy food stuff.

I completed the Pink Lemonade quilt top! I will post pictures on Pink Lemonade Quilt – Part 3. So be sure to check it out when it posts.

I have been designing some new blocks and I have been playing around with a new design site. It’s called PatternJam. It’s a free online quilt pattern design software. It’s pretty fun and they have a lot of fabric to use in the quilt designs. You can also scan in your own fabric. The different blocks are your basic block patterns, but, it gives you a way to design some pretty nice quilts for free. I am still looking at a design program to purchase because I have my own ideas, of course.

Here are some sales and reminders for the week-end:
