Mid-Week Fun!

Happy Wednesday to all of you wonderful people! I hope your week is going well so far. It has been a whirl-wind around here. My husband got home last Wednesday and from that moment on it was go, go, go!

We got everything ready to travel and left Friday night at 2am. We went to my sister and brother-in-laws’ house in Kalama, Washington. We arrived around 2pm and after about a half an hour of visiting, Colleen and I went shopping, for fabric of course! You can never have too much fabric. She has just started her first quilt. She finally got all of the fabric cut. I took my Accuquilt Go! Cutter and a few dies to show her how much easier it is to cut fabric. She is now budgeting for one for herself! (I should be a spokesperson for them! I love my Go! Cutter!)

We went to JoAnn Fabric and Craft store and enjoyed their 75th Anniversary sale. I picked up some gorgeous purple and teal fabric. I will be making myself a lap quilt. I gave my baby sister, Laura, the one I had made last December. I have several quilt designs waiting to be made. I just have to make a decision on which one to make!

Her favorite colors are purples and green. Mine are purples. I like some greens but tend to lean to the teals. I thought this would be a nice gift since she sits and is in a wheel chair all of the time due to M.S.. When I am sitting on the couch in the fall and winter, I enjoy a lap quilt.

She really liked it! I am glad I gave it to her. She was very excited to see all of the purple and greens The backing is dark green with green leaves. It is a real nice lap quilt and I know she will get a lot of use out of it this fall and winter.

It was a crazy four days on the road visiting family and friends. We did take Monty with us. He got to play with a couple of dogs and see lots of people, but I am sure he is happy to be home and just being a lazy dog. We were going to take another day in visiting but Wes had to go back to work a day earlier. So we visited with my best friend, Mary, for a bit of time and then hit the road. We finally got home Tuesday around 2:30am. I am just glad we got home safely.

Jacquelynne Steves Save the Bees BOM

I am super excited because I finally got my email containing the instructions for my first BOM from Jacquelynne Steves Save the Bees. I actually got it last week, but tomorrow I get to work on it and I will post photos as I go along so you can see what I am doing. If you haven’t signed up for the BOM, I think you can still do so. Just go to her website, www.jacquelynnesteve.com.

Now that my sweet husband is back on the road (sigh, sniff, sniff) it’s time to clean house and get dirty clothes in the washer. It always takes me a couple of days to get the house back in order after he leaves. This time it’s compounded with our time away. So before I can play in the quilt room I have to do my chores. I can’t wait to start my BOM and my new lap quilt so I gotta do the chores first.

I will be having another giveaway. So stay updated by signing up for email notifications. The giveaway will be starting soon. It’s going to be great! I hope you all will enter the giveaway!

Until next time – Enjoy the Dog Days of Summer!

Bzzy Saturday

Hello friends and visitors! I am so glad you stopped by today. I do hope you are having a great week-end and that it’s not too hot for you. It’s definitely a warm July. We have been experiencing temperatures in the 90’s. I don’t mind the low 80’s but when it starts getting into the 90’s, that’s too warm for me.

I have been working on my hand quilting WIP while waiting for the SAVE THE BEES BOM to begin. If you haven’t signed up for the BOM, there is still time! (Click on the link!) I am so excited for it to begin! The first block will be sent out August 6th, I think. I’m just waiting, waiting, waiting.

I bought some backing fabric for my BOM. It’s called Beelines from the Timeless Treasures Fabric of SoHo, LLC. I got it from Fabric.com. I thought it was super cute and perfect for this project.

Applique moose and bear place mats (practice)

Since this BOM includes applique, I have been practicing machine applique. Okay, I have to admit, I am a traditional piece block person. Applique really isn’t my thing. But I know a lot of people like it and I found some super cute dies from Accuquilt. Elephants, fall medleys, moose and bear, flowers and more.

GO! Northwoods Medley
Accuquilt Go! Northwoods Medley

I am already planning a baby quilt with applique elephants, a fall quilt with fall leaves and dare I say, Christmas quilted items with super cute applique dies. I will get this applique technique down. In the meantime I am making place mats for a neighbor and friend, whose theme in her house is moose and bears (very Montana). It’s a way a saying thank you for all she has done.

For those of you who love to design quilts and blocks, Accuquilt is having an Accuquilt Quilt Block Design 2018 Contest! Enter your quilt block design(s) then see if you designed a winner! Here is the link: https://www.accuquilt.com/block-contest/contest-home. The contest ends July 31, 2018. I have entered several quilt block designs already, hoping one of them will be a winner.

I have been canning green beans, carrots and beets. I have planted more carrot seeds, I am just hoping they grow so I will have more carrots to can. My neighbor gave me a large box filled with pie cherries from her trees. So I have those to pit and freeze today. I am waiting for the chilies and peppers to start producing and the squash seeds I planted are growing! The cucumber is doing great! I can’t wait to pick those and believe it or not, my green onions are still growing. They are almost ready to be pulled. I had to put my outdoor table and chairs against the fencing to keep the deer from eating my tomato plants. I don’t want them to eat the plants before I harvest tomatoes. Fun times in the summer time!

The yellow jackets are out of control out here. I have five traps and they are full. I can’t go out on my front porch because there is a nest of them under it. My poor Monty dog has been stung several times now. I can’t wait for my husband to get home and deal with them. They are vicious. My neighbor said they would try to help me get rid of the nest. I just don’t want them to get stung. I don’t want my husband getting stung either.

I am getting ready for another giveaway! So be sure to keep in the know by signing up for email notification. I promise not to overwhelm your email box.

Please send me pictures and a brief description of what you are working on this summer. I would love to share them with everyone. Are you already thinking about Autumn and cooler temperatures? Planning for winter and the upcoming holidays? How about some great BOMs. There are lots of them going on right now. Lets share and compare!

Saturday Night Fever

Greeting everyone! A BIG HELLO! to all you visitors! I’m happy that you all have taken the time to stop by tonight! I’m calling this night Saturday Night Fever! because it’s hot, hot, hot! It’s so hot I feel like I have a fever…. I think this calls for ice cream!

I haven’t written for a couple of weeks due to being busy, busy, busy. My husband, Wes, was home for about a week, that was so wonderful, even if my back was acting up and he hurt his hand doing, I don’t know what he was doing, something. He left just a couple of days before Independence Day.

I designed and made a Stars Americana quilt after he left. So that took a little time. Here are a couple of pictures…

I used fat quarters I purchased from Connecting Threads, Patriotic Picnic and Glory Days collections.

Patriotic Picnic Collection

Glory Days Collection

I really like the combination of the two collections. It gave the quilt a vintage look. All of the various prints worked well together. The blocks used are Sawtooth Star and Hourglass Star #2. These blocks were cut using my Accuquilt Go Cutter and dies. I used some left-over solid dark navy fabric for the backing and I had some blue-grey solid fabric from the place mats I made. It’s only 40 inches x 40 inches square, so it makes a great wall hanging or as you can see, a table topper.

Even though Independence Day has passed, the quilt looks great on my old sewing machine table. It’s a nice way to display it.

My garden is doing great. We finally got the sunshine we needed, however, someone could turn down the heat a bit. This over 90 degrees a day stuff is just a bit much. I got some great pictures. My tomatoes are loaded with blossoms and my bush beans have little baby green beans!

I did a trial run with the new pressure cooker/canner today. I thought I had pulled enough carrots to fill two pint jars but I could only fill one jar. So….. I went through the process and pressure cooked one pint of carrots. Everything worked great!

Fresh carrots canned 14 Jul 2018

How cute is that?! It’s now sitting in the pantry behind closed doors. I have more carrots to pull and can, as well as beets. I look forward to getting the green beans canned as well as the peppers  and chilies (when they are ready) and the tomatoes.

So while I am waiting for my veggies to get ready to be picked, pulled and plucked, I am working on a few WIPS. I am also waiting to start my  Save-the-Bees BOM from Jacquelynne Steves. I have my fabric and thread. I am just waiting for the first block pattern to come out. It’s super cute and I believe you can still sign up for the BOM. Just click on the link and join the fun!
It’s ice cream time now, or perhaps it’s time for me to stick my head in the freezer… boy it’s hot! So I hope everyone has a great week-end, wherever you are! Stay cool!

Catch-up News Tuesday

Greetings fellow quilters and visitors! I hope you all had a great week-end and are having a great week thus far. It is a gorgeous day today here in Montana. Blue skies, temperatures in the 60’s, pollen count rising, yep it’s great! Aaacchhhoooo! I’m not complaining, really. I love this weather, just not the pollen. But that’s what allergy medicine, eye drops and nasal spray come are for, so I can go outside and play with Monty dog.

I did get some seeds pre-started for my soon to be a garden. I purchased one of those little kits that comes with peat discs and a plastic dome. Those are pretty cool. I have cucumbers and lettuce showing their little leaves now. I’m waiting for the tomatoes and spinach to start appearing. When my husband gets home we will get the garden going. I’m excited! I still have to get a couple more seed packets. I want bush beans and he wants peppers. I also have carrots and radishes still to plant, but I’ll wait until we get the garden done.

I have been slowly working on my personal project, Around the Square Set. I am hand stitching the binding on each piece, just taking my time. At night when I am watching a little TV is when I am doing that. It keeps my hands busy.

I did get all of my fabric cut for the quilt pattern I received from Annie’s. I will start that article along with pictures tomorrow.

Here are a few things I wanted to share with you today:

AccuQuilt is having their 10th Anniversary and they are celebrating it with some super cute limited edition dies. Click here to get yours today!

On Jacquelynne Steves blog you will find 26 free Spring quilt patterns  to download for yourself. I just took a quick peak at them, but what I saw was super cute. If you are still suffering late winter blues, these will definitely cheer you up!

Today is the last day to purchase fabric for 25% off at Fabric Depot. These folks are online and located in Portland, Oregon, my old stomping grounds. They have some real nice fabric, so check them out.

Well it sounds like the county is grating our road. Yay! No more potholes! We live on what use to be a logging road so every Spring they come through and grate it to get rid of the worst potholes. It helps save on the suspension and just makes it nicer to walk on.

That’s all I have for now, my friends. Hope the rest of your week is wonderful and Spring-like. We are supposed to see temperatures up to the lower 80’s by Friday and then taper back down to normal.

Until next time – What’s in Your garden?

Mid-Week Update

pexels-photo-953075.jpeg

Hey everyone! It’s Wednesday! Why am I excited about Wednesday? Because it’s two days closer to when my husband gets home! Yay! Also, the snow is finally, well mostly, gone! I hope. Still can’t plant the bulbs yet or get my garden planted, but we are getting closer to when it will happen. I can hardly wait.

I did want to remind every one that Fabric.com is still having their FABRIC MADNESS going on, so if you haven’t entered into the drawing now is the time to do so. Just click on the link below and good luck!

I know Easter is just a few days away and I have to confess I have made nothing for the occasion. There are tons of cute, free patterns out there and in fact one of my favorite sites has about 25 of them listed. Hop on over to Jacquelynne Steves blog and find a cute project to make to celebrate the holiday.

Be sure to check your favorite fabric and craft stores this coming week-end. There will be lots of sales going on both on line and especially in the stores. I am hoping I will get to go to Joann’s Fabric and Craft store this coming week-end, myself.

I have started cutting fabric for one of my newly designed quilts. I had some lovely batik that I had purchased from Connecting Threads set aside for a different project (two years ago) and decided to use it to make this new quilt. Connecting Threads has some very nice fabric collections and their fabric is real good quality.

Being color blind makes it a challenge sometimes when I am trying to decide on what fabric to use for my quilts but Connecting Threads alleviates the guess work. I just pick a collection I like and then choose the fabric I want to use out of that collection. I know it will all coordinate. I get excited when I go to other fabric websites and find fabric collections there as well. No guess work on whether it will coordinate. It makes quilting and buying fabric a lot more fun. And of course if my husband is around I always ask for his advise.

One more thing before I go, for those of you quilters that have one of the Accuquilt Go Cutter systems, they are having a couple of sales going on right now. And today is the last day for free shipping. So head over there and get your order in for some new stuff!

Accuquilt deals and current offers!

Well, that’s it for now. I am headed back to the cutting table and am just about ready to get my Flying Trapeze II sewn together. My goal is to get this top done before hubby gets home. We’ll see if I succeed. I did get the dog bathed and the house cleaned today so I can concentrate on sewing the rest of today and tomorrow.

Until next time – Have a blessed Easter!
