Let’s Have A Giveaway Before June is Gone!

Wow! Where has the month gone? I cannot believe I missed most of May and the beginning of June! Between the birds and the rains my garden isn’t doing as well as I would like. So I am having to replant some seeds and actual plants. The weeds however, are doing fantastic!

I did get a part time job at the local no-kill shelter. The place is called TRACS (Thompson River Animal Care Shelter. They take in dogs and cats and find good forever homes for them. It’s where I got my Monty dog. People come from all over to adopt a new fur family member. And these animals come from all over the country and even out of country like Korea. It’s a good job and I enjoy working with the dogs and cats.

Now onto the fun stuff, a GIVEAWAY!

I am giving away this darling Sweet Dreams Baby Quilt electronic pattern thanks to Annie’s Catalog, who has made this giveaway possible.

How adorable is this quilt? One of the great things about this quilt is the blocks can be made from your scraps. You don’t have to go out and buy new fabric! Wait! What did I say? Of course you want to buy new baby soft fabric in shades of aqua, mint, orange and yellow. Using neutral gender prints combined with pastel color fabrics you can create a snuggly, comfy baby quilt for your own little one or as a gift for the upcoming new born your friend or family member is having.

Now the bears are machine appliqued, but don’t let that scare you if you have never done applique before. I use Soft Fuse Premium Paperbacked Fusible Web for all of my applique. There are other fusibles out there, but I found this one to be the easiest to use. Just follow the directions and have fun. I do recommend practicing before making the bears and applying them to the background. And don’t sweat the machine sewing. Just take it slow. Watch a few YouTube videos and practice.

One hint that will save your iron and ironing board, take a piece of wax paper, lay it down on your ironing board waxy, shiny side down. When you are ready to fuse your piece, take another piece of wax paper, waxy, shiny side down and lay it on top of your piece and then fuse according to instructions. These two pieces of wax paper can be used over and over again and you won’t get glue on your iron or ironing board.

Here is my quilt top. There are a couple of more things on the bear faces I have to do once I get my quilt sandwich together. But it sure was fun to make. I used scraps for my blocks and fat quarters for the border. My Accuquilt Go! Cutter sure came in handy when it came to cutting all of those blocks. I had some white tonal in my stash as well as the taupe for the bear heads. You can just make out the penciled drawing of closed eyes and the lines from their noses. I used Aurifil thread for my piecing and for the machine applique. I will be hand quilting this little project with Aurifil 12wt thread. When I’m finished I will post a picture.

The giveaway begins Monday June 10, 2019 and will end on midnight Monday June 24, 2019. This giveaway is open to all residents of the United States. You must be a minimum of 18 years old to enter. Happy Worldwide Quilting Day!

Or Happy National Quilting Day! What ever day you want to call it, celebrate quilting with the rest of your quilting friends around the world.

So what are you doing to celebrate this day? There are several great sales going on to celebrate today. Also, if you are signed up on Instagram and or get email from the Fat Quarter Shop’s Jolly Jabber then you know they have a very sweet pattern for free. You can make it in a wall hanging size or a lap quilt size. The quilt is called Piece, Love & Quilting.

If you want, you can also enter your quilt to try and be one of three winners. Sounds like fun, right? Here is the link https://blog.fatquartershop.com/free-pattern-worldwide-quilting-day-contest/

I used my Accuquilt Go! Cutting system and was able to cut 98% of the pattern in just a matter of a couple of hours. Of course that included fresh cups of hot tea. Here is a photo of my version of Piece, Love & Quilting.

Piece, Love and Quilting Fat Quarter Shop Free Quilt Pattern

As you can see, it’s all ready to be quilted. I made the wall hanging to hang up in my sewing room. This is a super fast and fun little pattern. Let’s hope it’s a winner. By the way, the challenge runs from today (March 16, 2019) through Sunday, March 31, 2019. So you have time to get your free pattern, make your quilt and submit it. Have fun making it! I know I did.

I told you I decided to enter some quilts in the local quilt show that will take place next month. I finally made my final decisions and there will be eight quilt products I am showing. I finished piecing together my own designed quilt, Peaceful, and it is now spray basted and ready to be quilted. I am just waiting for some clear thread to arrive. I want to do some detailed quilting on it but not take away from the pattern or colors. My husband says it has an optical illusion about it. I am just very pleased with how the colors came together. I used Kona Cotton solids for the blocks, Michael Miller’s Mer-Mates Current stripe Tropical and for the backing I am using Kaffe Fassett Collective Brassica Pastels.

I think the backing is going to be just as pretty as the front! This wall hanging will be displayed in the living room. I purchased all of the fabric from Fabric.com. They have great fabric and real good prices and fabric is always on sale. I used Aurifil MK50 2026 for piecing. I’m going to be using a clear, mono-filament thread, but I don’t remember what brand I ordered. I think it was Aurifil. It will be the first time I have ever used this type of thread so I have some practice sandwich pieces to practice on. I want to tension to be right. I understand it can be a bit stretchy. Since I tend to sew like I’m driving a race car, I’ll have to watch my speed and keep it nice and slow.

Fat Quarter Shop Quilting Fabrics and Supplies

Remember the quilt-along I told you about last week? It’s almost here! It starts March 22, 2019! So stay tuned to Fat Quarter Shop Jolly Jabber Blog so you can be a part of it! It’s the Union Square Block Quilt. Here are a couple more blocks I made for it.

I made these with Riley Blake’s Simply Happy fat quarters. And I used my Accuquilt Go! Cutting system to cut the pieces. I have to say, that thing has saved me a lot of time and makes it possible to get to sewing my pieces together so much faster. What can I say, I love my Accuquilt Go! Cutting system!

That’s it for now. Spring is finally appearing here in NW Montana. They (the weather people) are talking about temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s. Yay! That means all of this snow will melt and I can start planning my garden! And all of this snow will melt. Did I say that already? We have a ton of snow here.

Don’t forget, you can now find me on Instagram @lodgepolequilting. So be sure to follow me there! Also, I do use affiliate links but I don’t store your information. Check out my policy page to see how they are used.
