Happy Cloud Quilt Batting by Fat Quarter Shop

I don’t know about any where else, but here in Montana we have received a lot of snow. Compared to last year, we have probably gotten twice as much. I am going to guess almost two feet. And there is still more on the way. I know, I know, I said I wanted lots of snow, but… I think I’m ready for it to stop snowing and get on to the melting part. At this rate it will be June before it’s melted and gone. Sheesh. I can see all of my garden plans being buried under the mounds of snow.

I have been keeping busy indoors. I am still clearing out my UFOs. I’m working on the Bellisimo quilt Connecting Threads quilt kit for our bed. It’s coming along nicely. I have three more rows to put together and then sew all of the rows together. I am going to hand tie the quilt. I found some nice crafting thread that will work lovely with the quilt. I am also still hand quilting the Moda Love Charm Quilt. This is being done in the evenings while watching television. I did get a quilt I designed cut out. It’s just waiting to be put together. And two more quilts are now ready for quilting. I will show you those when they are complete.

I do have some exciting news. I am going to be just one of several bloggers who are going to participate in a quilt-along. Woohoo! The quilt-along won’t be for a few more weeks but I thought I would give you a sneak preview.

I am using Riley Blake’s Simply Happy Fat quarters. These are so bright and colorful, they remind me that Spring really isn’t that far away. With all of the snow around me I need that reminder. I will also be using Riley Blake’s Small Gingham in yellow and for the backing Riley Blake’s Bee Backing 108″ wide in Red Bandana. Also Aurifil thread for the piecing and quilting. I have to say it’s one of my favorite brands of thread. I’ve given you the links but here are a few pictures of the fabric.

Using my trusty Accuquilt Go! Cutting System and four of the cutting dies out of my Mix and Match 8 inch Qube I was able to cut most of the pieces needed for my quilt block. Oh the more I quilt and design quilts the more I realize I need more dies from Accuquilt!

In my next blog I will show you some pictures of the pieces I have cut and how nicely they go together. It really makes putting a block together much faster. And no dog ears to deal with.

It’s time for more tea and back to quilting I go. I do hope you have a great week! May it be fill with the joys of quilting, great tea and signs of Spring.

Until next time – Who has Spring flowers?

Snowy Sunday

Hello, hello, hello! Welcome to LodgePole Quilting! First time visitors please browse around and don’t forget to sign up for our mailing list. You will receive notification for new posts and a promise of not filling your email with tons of junk. Also, I just want you to know that I do use affiliate links. I do receive a small stipend when you use them, to help for the upkeep of this site. If you want more information please check out my privacy-policy page.

It’s snowing like mad here in Montana. We had a good snow storm last week that left us with about 7 inches of snow. After it started melting we now are looking at another possible 6 to 8 inches. I love it! Of course I stay indoors and drink lots of hot tea and quilt. What do you do when the weather is bad?

Speaking of quilting, Moda had a fun little quilt project last week. It was called Moda Love In Quilt Sew-a-long. I made three quilts, one from Moda Garden Variety charms and two from Moda Quill mini charms. Here are my pictures. The mini charm quilts are completed and the charm quilt is still being hand quilted.

These were a lot of fun and super easy to make. And a great way to use some of my stash so I can make room for new charms and mini charms.

I am super excited to start National Quilters Circle Mystery Paper Piecing Quilt. This is a free quilt project open to any one. If you have never done paper piecing quilting now is your chance to try. So click on the link and join it today. This should be lots of fun!

I am clearing up some of my UFOs. It’s a good feeling. It also makes room for more UFOs. What can I say, I get several projects going at once. I try to just do one at a time but ….. I find a new quilt pattern I have to try or design one and then one thing leads to another. I find myself with several projects going at once. Are you a one project at a time person or are you like me, several projects at a time person?

I know Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Unfortunately I haven’t made anything for Valentines. But Jacquelynne Steves has a list of free Valentines projects you can check out. Just click on her linked name to see the projects!

Well, it’s time for more tea and back to finishing my Moda Love Quilt so I can finish a couple more quilts before I start the National Quilters Circle Mystery Paper Piecing Quilt. By the way, if you are doing any hand quilting, let me recommend Aurifil 50 wt thread. It’s smooth and silky as well as strong. And it comes in some amazing colors. I absolutely love it. You can purchase it from one of my favorite places, Fat Quarter Shop. Click on the link and check it out!

Have a great week! I hope everyone stays safe and warm and dry. Winter isn’t over and grab some tea, sit back and quilt!

Until next time – Mmmmmm nothing like a cup of hot Chai tea

January Joys

Snowy, January greetings to all of you wonderful visitors, family and friends!

I lost the month of December and discovered that half of January has passed. Don’t ask what happened because I have no idea! I have enjoyed many cups of hot chai and hours of embroidery. EMBROIDERY? I know, but it’s been for a good reason. Sometimes I have to take a break from quilting to recharge my quilting batteries. However, one of my embroidery projects does belong to a quilt project, so technically it’s quilting. Right?

I do hope everyone’s holiday season was wonderful. I embroidered tea towels and made potato bags for various friends and family. I ran out of time so I have a couple more to make as birthday gifts.

Potato bags are perfect for steaming potatoes in the microwave.

These are just a few of the things I made over the holiday season. I embroidered several tea towels, the set shown is just one I had made. The place mats were a gift for my youngest daughter. I call them Meeses in the Trees. The quilting was a simple design of pebbles in the main portion and waves on the border. I used my Accuquilt Go! Cutting system and the NorthWoods Medley die to cut the pieces I needed.

Fat Quarter Shop Basic of the Month Sale

The potato bags were super simple. I used fat quarters from the Emma and Myrtle collection from Connecting Threads. All the batting was from scraps I had saved from previous quilts. The website I got the pattern from is American Quilter’s Society.

My husband did add more shelves in my sewing room. One shelf is being dedicated to fat quarters, jelly rolls, layer cakes and other pieces of fabric. The rest of the shelves are full of binders filled with various quilt patterns and BOMs and quilts I have designed. Ahhhh, I love it when things are organized.

What are some of the things you are looking forward to working on? I have been collecting free blocks from a few websites that I plan to make. Also, I am looking forward to a new BOM from National Quilters Circle, it’s going to involve English Paper Piecing (EPP). I can hardly wait.

Another great BOM I am looking forward to is with Jacquelynne Steves. And please let’s not forget the Fat Quarter Shop. They have some totally awesome BOMs.

Oh, I forgot to mention exciting news for my sister, Colleen. She just received her Accuquilt Go! Cutting System!

My sister Colleen. Just look at the excitement on her face!

Oh the choices that face me for this new year. Including some new dies from Accuquilt! Oh the fun I have to look forward to enjoy. Will there be enough time to do it all? I don’t know about you but I am game to try!

Just a quick reminder I do use affiliate links. Any money I make from them help keep this website going. Thank you.

Hello December!

Welcome everyone! I have to apologize for having not posted anything since the end of October. A lot of things happened since then, including crashing hard drives, husband changing jobs and a medical scare that turned out to be benign. On top of that we took an impromptu trip to Indiana for me to finally meet my husband’s two oldest kids (it’s only been three years in the waiting) and the grand-boys, four of them, ranging in age from 10 months to 5 years old.

Left to Right: Wesley, Wes (hubby), me, Sarah

I’ll try to get a picture of all of the boys together. It was great to finally meet everyone. The weather was perfect in spite of the bit of snow and rain mix we ran into in Indiana. When we left the weather held until we got to Bozeman, Montana. It was full on snow all the way through Missoula. I was glad to finally get home.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day and wonderful  Black Friday shopping. Hubby and I were on the road heading home during that time, so I didn’t even get to post great fabric sales. I sure hope you quilters got some great deals!

I haven’t got a lot done with quilting during November. It was just a crazy month. But I did get a little done. Here are some pictures:

While I was in Indiana, Sarah gave me a wonderful surprise. She was given a box with a partially completed quilt top. She doesn’t quilt, yet, so she thought I could do something with it. Check this out:

There are several pieces unattached as well as pre-cut pieces. I looked up the pattern and I believe it’s called Grandmother’s Flower Garden. I can’t wait to get this completed but it will be some time. Right now I am working on Christmas ornaments, baby bibs for my teething, drooling grandson, a lap quilt and a table topper. Not to mention a couple of gifts. Sheesh. Sooooo many projects, sooooo little time.

The first of several pp ornaments (Frosted Flakes – American Patchwork Quilting)

I did get the Christmas tree up and decorated and decorations scattered throughout the house. I think this is the last year for my little Christmas tree. It’s looking a bit sad. What can I say, I bought it at a thrift store for $5.00, several years ago. It might be a bit difficult to find another one at that price. Here are just a few pictures.

Some of the ornaments I am making will actually go on the tree. The rest is going to various family members. I am making paper piecing (pp) ornaments, 3D ornaments and maybe stuffed ornaments as well as applique ornaments. That’s a lot of different kinds of ornaments. You should see my pretty bead stash to add as accent.

Well, I better get back to quilting, paper piecing, and gift making. I am so glad you decided to stop by. Don’t forget to sign up for email notification. I promise not to load your email box with lots of junk.

Until next time – Let’s stay in touch, leave a comment!
