Let’s Have A Giveaway Before June is Gone!

Wow! Where has the month gone? I cannot believe I missed most of May and the beginning of June! Between the birds and the rains my garden isn’t doing as well as I would like. So I am having to replant some seeds and actual plants. The weeds however, are doing fantastic!

I did get a part time job at the local no-kill shelter. The place is called TRACS (Thompson River Animal Care Shelter. They take in dogs and cats and find good forever homes for them. It’s where I got my Monty dog. People come from all over to adopt a new fur family member. And these animals come from all over the country and even out of country like Korea. It’s a good job and I enjoy working with the dogs and cats.

Now onto the fun stuff, a GIVEAWAY!

I am giving away this darling Sweet Dreams Baby Quilt electronic pattern thanks to Annie’s Catalog, who has made this giveaway possible.

How adorable is this quilt? One of the great things about this quilt is the blocks can be made from your scraps. You don’t have to go out and buy new fabric! Wait! What did I say? Of course you want to buy new baby soft fabric in shades of aqua, mint, orange and yellow. Using neutral gender prints combined with pastel color fabrics you can create a snuggly, comfy baby quilt for your own little one or as a gift for the upcoming new born your friend or family member is having.

Now the bears are machine appliqued, but don’t let that scare you if you have never done applique before. I use Soft Fuse Premium Paperbacked Fusible Web for all of my applique. There are other fusibles out there, but I found this one to be the easiest to use. Just follow the directions and have fun. I do recommend practicing before making the bears and applying them to the background. And don’t sweat the machine sewing. Just take it slow. Watch a few YouTube videos and practice.

One hint that will save your iron and ironing board, take a piece of wax paper, lay it down on your ironing board waxy, shiny side down. When you are ready to fuse your piece, take another piece of wax paper, waxy, shiny side down and lay it on top of your piece and then fuse according to instructions. These two pieces of wax paper can be used over and over again and you won’t get glue on your iron or ironing board.

Here is my quilt top. There are a couple of more things on the bear faces I have to do once I get my quilt sandwich together. But it sure was fun to make. I used scraps for my blocks and fat quarters for the border. My Accuquilt Go! Cutter sure came in handy when it came to cutting all of those blocks. I had some white tonal in my stash as well as the taupe for the bear heads. You can just make out the penciled drawing of closed eyes and the lines from their noses. I used Aurifil thread for my piecing and for the machine applique. I will be hand quilting this little project with Aurifil 12wt thread. When I’m finished I will post a picture.

The giveaway begins Monday June 10, 2019 and will end on midnight Monday June 24, 2019. This giveaway is open to all residents of the United States. You must be a minimum of 18 years old to enter. The winner will be announced within 48 hours. You know how giveaways work, the more questions you respond to the more points you earn. SO, answer those questions. The drawing will be random. Oh What Fun! Quilter Clubs!

Have you ever wondered about some of those clubs out there for quilters? I mean, there are a lot of different ones out there, right? So what comes in the kits they send? Is it complete? Do you have to buy other stuff to complete the project(s)?

Accuquilt Dynamic Promo

Well good news for you I check out these different clubs, just for you, so I can tell you about them. Today I want to share with you Annie’s Holiday Quilters Monthly Club. Now, I really like Annie’s clubs. They have great projects that are easy to complete and you have great gifts to give to others. I was provided, for free, a kit from Annie’s Holiday Quilt Club to review and evaluate, just for you.

Club Overview: Holiday Quilters Club is a monthly subscription that includes all the instructions, patterns and fabric you need to create a new seasonal project you can finish quickly and use right away. The projects are suitable for every skill level—easy enough for beginners and exciting enough for seasoned stitchers who want to make a quick quilted project.

Annie’s Holiday Quilters Monthly Club is everything I expected it to be. The quality of fabric is great. This months’ club kit, Multi-Holiday Hot Pads by Timeless Treasures, came with all of the fabric, patterns, applique templates, buttons and embroidery thread. And since the fabric in this kit is Timeless Treasurers, you know it’s quality fabric. In fact, all of Annie’s club kits use quality fabric.

Here is a few photos of the kit: before I opened it, layout of fabric and instructions, and completed projects.

Now tell me these aren’t adorable hot pads! They represent every season, spring, summer, fall and winter. The only things I had to add to make these was paper backed fusible, tracing paper, some leftover cotton batting and insulated batting and thread to sew these cute hot pads. I do recommend having some no fray solution on hand. It will come in handy.

Since this is a monthly club, every month is something different. You can be sure each kit will contain great fabric, instructions and lots of fun!

And to make sure you get to have fun I have a coupon code for 50% off of your first order. All you have to do is plug in the code and get 50% off! There is no expiration on the code, so if you can’t fit it in your budget this month it’s available for you to use when it does fit.

Here is the code: LPQ50

Just head over to Annie’s Holiday Quilters Club and start having fun! Then send me your photos of your finished products and I will share them here for everyone else to see just how much fun you’re having!

Remember, I do use affiliate links, so when you click on one of my links and follow through to purchase I will receive a small commission which helps cover the costs of this website.

Growing Things and Spring

Hello, hello hello! I am so glad you stopped by today to see what’s happening at LodgePole Quilting. We have a few things going on around here so let’s get busy!

First I want to let you know I do use affiliate links so if you do make a purchase from one of my links, thank you. That small commission I make helps to keep this website going. Secondly, I want to encourage you to sign up for the email. That way you can stay informed as to when I make another post. And then third, be sure to follow me on Instagram. You can find the link at the end of this blog or click here.

My dear husband, Wes, has been very busy outside working on a couple of projects and one of them is for me. He is expanding my garden to give me more room to move around in and add a couple of more raised beds. I am very excited because the babies I have started from seeds are getting ready to be in their new home. I have lots of new baby plants and lots of more seeds to sow.

Start your 7-Day Free Bluprint Trial at myBluprint.com now!

He also bought me some new lily bulbs since the ones I had from a couple of years ago didn’t do so well last year. As soon as the weather straightens out I will get them planted as well.

Did I mention we bought a little peach tree. It already has buds that are opening. But again, we are waiting for the weather to stop being so erratic. Yesterday we had rain, snow, hail, more rain and a sprinkling of sunshine. Crazy. So my garden is indoors until spring gets itself under control.

Oh Me, Oh My, How Time Flies!

It’s always amazing to me when I see we are approaching the middle of what was a new month. I haven’t decided if it’s because the older I get time seems shorter, or if time really is flying by.

I do know the SEW HOT IRON REST GIVEAWAY is almost over. If you haven’t entered now is the time to do so. The Giveaway ends April 14, 2019 at 12am. I will be announcing the winner on Tuesday April 16, 2019. Click here to enter the giveaway!

I entered a designer fabric challenge through Modern Quilt Guild. They sent me five fat eighths. I was looking at them and thinking, “What am I going to do with these?” The upside of this challenge is I can use additional fabric from the same designer in my challenge. I decided to design a quilt. I’m calling it Star Blossoms.

Accuquilt Dynamic Promo

I have completed the nine star blocks. Five of them are 20.5 inches square including their borders and four of them are 14.5 inches square with their borders.

The designer is Riley Blake. I really like all of their collections and since I had some fat quarters and scraps I was able to use them with the five fat eighths I received. It was definitely a challenge in choosing fabric and which star block to make. I had one block I was going to use this great fabric for and I totally mis-calculated what I needed to cut and wasted two perfect fat quarters. It just about made me sick. However I was able to use some of it in another star block. Whew.

Here are some pictures of the star blocks I made.

I used Riley Blake Designs Simply Happy, Shortcake, Wild Bouquet, Vintage Crayola, Granny Chic Solids, Gingham Small Cotton Yellow and of course, the five fat eighths. I think they came out pretty good. I like star blocks and let me tell you I have tons of quilt designs crowding my mind with all of the various blocks I have found. I need more paper and pencils!

I used the five fat eighths in the Ohio star block, Sawtooth star block, Fractured star block and in Star Struck star block.

Happy Cloud Quilt Batting by Fat Quarter Shop

The background is going to be white, Riley Blake Designs white, of course and the border is a red print and the backing is a blue plaid, again, Riley Blake Designs fabrics. I’m using Aurifil MK-50 2026 (white) thread for all of the piecing. I haven’t decided on the quilting part yet. It just depends on how it comes out once it’s all put together.

I used my Accuquilt Go! Cutting System and various dies to cut these stars. Let me tell you, that is such a time saver. Not to mention how much easier it was to cut half rectangle triangles. No calculating on my part. So thank you Accuquilt! You made cutting block pieces so much easier.

Thankfully I have until the 31st of May to get this all finished. I did get the hard part completed. I will have more pictures later.

Until then, don’t forget to enter the Giveaway. I am going to be having another one in about a week. So be sure to sign up for the emails. You will want to enter this one as well. Oh, I do love giveaways!

One last thing, I am entering several quilts I have made in a quilt show that is being held Saturday, April 13, 2019. My stomach is doing flip-flops. It’s the first time I have ever done anything like this. It’s one thing to give my work to family and friends, but to have my quilts on display for strangers to look at…. well… flip-flops. Thankfully there isn’t any judging on these. Okay, that’s it for now.

Until next time – Spring is here – what’s blooming in your quilting?

I’m So Excited!

It’s time for the great unveiling! The Union Square Quilt has been officially released today! Yay! I am so excited!

Union Square Quilt in Riley Blake Simply Happy and Gingham Small Cotton.
Back of Union Square Quilt made with Riley Blake Simply Happy and Gingham Small Cotton

I had a lot of fun making this quilt. I was able to use my Accuquilt Go! Cutter and my Go! Qube Mix and Match 8 inch Block to cut most of the pieces needed for this quilt block. I saved a lot of time using the cutting system and have accurate cuts.

Accuquilt Dynamic Promo

The fabric I chose for this quilt along is Riley Blake Designs Simply Happy by Dodi Lee Poulsen and Small Cotton Gingham Yellow. The yellow gingham made me very happy while putting the blocks together. I was surrounded by a lot of snow when I was making this quilt. All of the colors and happy prints brought spring into my wintry home.

from: Fat Quarter Shop

The quilting is a very simple line done in a horizontal and vertical 2 inch pattern. It actually compliments the pattern of the quilt. I used Auriful thread MK-50 #2026 (white) for all of the piecing and quilting. I am just going to admit it, Aurifil thread is my favorite thread to use. It’s the first one I reach for when I am piecing and/or quilting.

The wool pressing mat and the Tailor’s Clapper made a huge difference in the pressing of my pieces. Crisp seams and pointing points make a beautiful block.
